The exciting news was confirmed on Saturday by the musical's producer, Harvey Weinstein, at the Weinstein Company's annual pre-Oscar dinner -- sponsored by FIJI water -- at the Montage in Beverly Hills, California.
Guests in attendance were in for a treat, as Hough even performed two numbers from the musical -- including "Singin' In the Rain" -- at the star-studded event.
An insider tells ET that Hough's DWTS pals, Val Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd, were a few of the stars who got a first look at the 30-year-old dancer's new gig. Lady Gaga, Nick Jonas, Rachel McAdams, David Foster, Ashley Tisdale, Lana Del Rey, John Legend, Chrissy Teigen and Zendaya were also at the pre-Oscar event.
Hough technically made his Broadway debut in 2010, appearing in the last performances of Burn the Floor in place of Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Rumors of Hough joining Singin' In the Rain began last year, after he performed "Singin' In the Rain" in Weinstein's New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. At the time, Hough was dealing with a foot injury he encountered during a DWTS rehearsal and had to skip out on a few of the scheduled performances.
