The Walt Disney Studios announced on Wednesday that the follow-up to the massively successful Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- which is being written and directed by Rian Johnson -- will now premiere on Dec. 15, 2017, nearly six months after the film's originally planned Memorial Day release date. Disney now plans to release Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales that weekend instead.

With the move, Disney is looking to make Star Wars something of a Christmas tradition. This December, the studio is releasing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a spin-off in which a Rebel force plots to steal plans for the Death Star.
To date, The Force Awakens has earned an astonishing $1.8 billion (Watch your back, Avatar.) and broken basically all the records ever. (Watch your back, Avatar.)
