It was bound to happen eventually, but now it's official: A Whitney Houston hologram is on the way.
Hologram USA and Pat Houston -- President of the Whitney Houston Estate -- announced on Friday plans to create a hologram of the late singer, which will perform its own headlining show in 2016. According to a press release, the interactive show, created by FilmOn Studios, will open at "a major U.S. venue and tour the world," and will feature a selection of Houston's biggest hits.

"It's a great opportunity for her fans to see a reinvention of one the most celebrated female artists in history and to continue a legacy of performances that will not be forgotten in years to come," Pat Houston said in a statement.
Houston is hardly the first late celeb to get the hologram treatment -- Tupac Shakur, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson have all been hologram-ized in recent years, while plans for a Selena hologram tour were announced earlier this year.
Hologram USA also recently inked a partnership with the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, which will make it the first U.S. venue with a long-term hologram stage. The first celebrity to appear will be Billie Holiday, later this year.

The company is also currently working with the estates of Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, Bing Crosby, and more.
Houston died tragically in February 2012 of accidental drowning in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Just three years later, in July 2015, Houston's 22-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, died in hospice care following a bathtub incident eerily reminiscent of her mother's death.
