Will Smith: We Don't Own Our Children

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith's talented brood, Jaden and Willow, are undoubtedly a powerhouse pair in the making, but in a recent interview with New York Magazine, the Smith patriarch shot down implications that he and his wife have ever thrust their kids into the spotlight of the entertainment industry against their will.

"We don't own our children," defended Will of his 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter, both of whom have been featured in a handful of blockbuster flicks and music projects. "They own themselves."

While Will denies ever forcing his hand into Jaden's career, there is no question the 44-year-old superstar remains fiercely protective over his son's personal life.

When a question was pointed to Jaden during their dual interview in NY Mag regarding his rumored romance with a member of another high-profile Hollywood family, the Kardashians, Will was quick to halt the perceived intrusion of privacy.

"Don't," he warned the reporter. "He's never had…to deal with those kinds of questions."
