The singer's wife Chrissy Teigen also appears in the clip, which focuses on female empowerment.
John Legend is all about female empowerment in his latest video.
Legend's "You and I (Nobody In the World)" clip was revealed on Thursday featuring Orange Is the New Black's Emmy-nominated actress Laverne Cox, as well as his own wife in real life, Chrissy Teigen. The video shows a series of women from all walks of life examining themselves in a mirror. The overall theme? You’re all beautiful.
Legend croons on the track: "You fix your make up, just so / Guess you don’t know, that you’re beautiful. / Try on every dress that you own. / You were fine in my eyes, a half hour ago. / If your mirror won’t make it any clearer I’ll / Be the one to let you know / Out of all the girls / You my one and only girl. / Ain’t nobody in the world tonight."
Tatyana Ali, who also appears in the video, tweeted about its release: "Powerful and beautiful. Peep this new @johnlegend video. Blessed to be amongst these amazing women."
For his part, Legend tweeted that he is "proud" of the video. Directed by Mishka Kornai, "You and I" was created via EVERDREAM, a new digital content studio comprised of millennial filmmakers. A companion documentary created in conjunction with the music video explores the different stories behind the various women featured in the music video. The doc, titled "When I look in The Mirror," can be viewed online.
