Oops! Rihanna Falsely Named BET Award Winner Over Chris Brown
The Chris Brown versus Rihanna drama continued at the BET Awards, but this time neither of the singers was at fault.
When it came time to announce the recipient of the Coca-Cola Viewer's Choice Award, there was a glitch in the system. A confused presenter seemed to notice a conflict between the teleprompter and the touch-screen in her hand.
She announced Chris as the winner, but soon retracted and declared Rihanna the victor over her ex-boyfriend. Unable to attend the show, collaborator Drake accepted the trophy on Rihanna's behalf. The songstress tweeted her gratitude right away, saying, "#RihannaNavy thank you for proving what I tell the world everyday! Nobody fans go harder dan YALL!!! Thx 4 pickin that up @drakkardnoir 1LUV."
She spoke too soon. At the end of the awards ceremony, host Kevin Hart wheeled out on the stage with Chris to clear up the controversy once and for all. In a dramatic twist of events, Chris did in fact win the viewer's choice award after all.
The "Look At Me Now" singer tweeted, "All these awards tonight are for my fans! I'm so grateful to have you guys." He also won for Best Collaboration with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, as well as Best Male R&B Artist and FANdemonium. Rihanna was named Best Female R&B Artist fair and square.
The BET Awards were broadcast live Sunday night on BET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Watch the video to see the mix-up unravel.
