'Fifty Shades Darker' won't be graphic enough for an NC-17 rating.
Despite its very NSFW origins, Fifty Shades Darker won't be steamy enough to earn an NC-17 rating.
The highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey sequel has just been given an R rating for "strong erotic sexual content and some graphic nudity and language," according to a statement from the MPAA obtained by E! News. Last January, Fifty Shades of Grey also dodged the more restrictive NC-17 rating, though fans still debate about just how racy the film adaptations of writer E.L. James' erotic trilogy should be.
The Fifty Shades Darker trailer debuted in September, with lots of sex, drama, and danger. The trailer teased a racy shower scene, while singer Miguel's sultry version of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" played in the background.
And clearly, fans are eager for the film's Feb. 10, 2017 release date. In September, the trailer overtook mega blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens for most views in 24 hours.
