On Tuesday, the Today show announced that Kotb has been named Savannah Guthrie's official co-anchor on the first two hours of the morning show, and will also continue to co-host the fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford.

"It’s 2018 and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is officially the co-anchor of Today," Guthrie excitedly announced. "This has to be the most popular decision NBC News have ever made and I’m so thrilled."

After the new opening was played once again, Kotb quipped that her name was "pronounced right and everything."

"I’m pinching myself," the 53-year-old TV personality exclaimed.

Further praising Kotb, Guthrie added, "You are a partner and a friend and a sister and I am so happy to be doing this."

Kotb has been with NBC News since 1998 when she joined Dateline, and has filled in on the first two hours of Today quite frequently.

Needless to say, the morning show team was thrilled over the news. "Congrats @hodakotb on your well deserved promotion! We love you! #SavannahHodaTODAY," Carson Daly tweeted.

"Best way to start the year! Congrats @hodakotb," Jenna Bush Hager wrote.

Even Chelsea Clinton was excited for Kotb, tweeting: "Congratulations @hodakotb!"

NBC News Chairman Andy Lack also sent out an email regarding Kotb's new position. "Over the past several weeks, Hoda has seamlessly stepped into the co-anchor role alongside Savannah, and the two have quickly hit the ground running. They have an undeniable connection with each other and most importantly, with viewers, a hallmark of Today," Lack wrote.

Further gushing over Kotb, his email continued, "Hoda is, in a word, remarkable. She has the rare ability to share authentic and heartfelt moments in even the most difficult news circumstances. It's a tribute to her wide range and her innate curiosity."

This news comes just over a month after Matt Lauer was fired from the Today show after he was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior. He worked at the NBC program for over 20 years and was most recently Guthrie's co-anchor. When Guthrie announced Lauer's ousting on Nov. 28, Kotb was by her side.

Following Lauer's firing from Today, a source at NBC told ET, "It is really clear that we need to change the way we do our day-to-day work and figure out our priorities."
