Gayle King Reacts to Matt Lauer Being Fired From 'Today' a Week After Charlie Rose Scandal

Morning show anchors across all networks reacted to the shocking news.

If anyone can sympathize with how the Today show team is feeling after the sudden firing of Matt Lauer, it's the employees at CBS This Morning.

On Wednesday morning, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced at the top of the Today show that Lauer -- who started on the NBC morning show in 1994 -- was let go from the network after allegations of "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." He did not comment on the allegations or his recent termination until Thursday morning at the top of the Today show.

News of Lauer's firing comes one week after Charlie Rose was terminated from CBS This Morning after eight women came forward alleging that they were sexually harassed by the 75-year-old newsman while working on his PBS show. CBS later reported that three women who worked at the network also accused Rose of sexual misconduct.

King and Norah O'Donnell reported on Lauer's termination and admitted that it's all too familiar. "I look at that picture and I have a sickening feeling of déjà vu," King said somberly. "Certainly because we’re dealing with our own situation here. It does send a message that you’re not too big to fall."

"I take no joy in this this," she continued, calling it a "sad situation."

The co-anchors revisited the report during the next hour of CBS This Morning, with King confessing, "We all know how they feel today."

Meanwhile on Good Morning America, the co-anchors were also shook by the news, with George Stephanopoulos, Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts reporting on Lauer's firing.

"I was really struck, guys, by Today having Savannah and Hoda having to report the story, and then it was with Charlie Rose, it was Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell having to report this, and how you could just tell that they are grappling with how this is somebody they have worked with," Roberts said while seated between her male co-anchors. "But they have all spoken about the bravery of their colleagues, those women."
