The 40 Biggest Guest Stars Ever on 'Friends'

The two titans of comedy appeared as Tomas and Tim, two friends who ask for room on the Central Perk couch when no other seats were available. 

They then interrupted Monica's love life update to have a hilarious back and forth about insecurities in their own relationships. When it was revealed Tim was sleeping with Tomas' wife, he stormed out with his apologetic friend following in his wake. 

At the height of their ER fame, George Clooney and Noah Wyle appeared as two doctors who tended to Rachel's injured ankle in "The One With Two Parts, Part 2."

Rachel and Monica asked the doctors on a double date, only for it to go horribly wrong after a case of mistaken identity. 

The Big Little Lies star played Rachel's shopping-obsessed younger sister, who was determined to start a new life after their father had cut her off for overspending.

Instead, she continued her old ways and even added tension to the social circle when she started dating Ross. Knowing nothing would ever happen again with Rachel if he went forward with it, Ross broke off the relationship and Jill left the group. 

The Academy Award winner guest-starred on an episode that aired after the Super Bowl and was viewed by an audience of 52.9 million people. More people watched this iconic Friends episode than watched the show's finale. 

Roberts played a grade school friend of Chandler's, who he embarrassed in front of the whole school in the fourth grade. It's just Chandler's luck when he realizes the date might be too good to be true.

The action star played Paul Stevens in three episodes from Season 6. Stevens used his physically imposing build to intimidate Ross, who was dating his daughter.

He did so because he did not approve of the age difference between the two, especially since Ross was Elizabeth's teacher at the time. He later proved himself to be a hypocrite when he started dating Rachel, who was just as young for him as Elizabeth was for Ross. 

The Hollywood hunk with serious acting chops was dating Jennifer Aston when he appeared on the Season 8 episode "The One With the Rumor."

Pitt played Will Colbert, who was bullied by Rachel during high school for his weight. In retaliation, he founded the "I Hate Rachel Greene" Club with Ross. 

The mustachioed leading man is known for starring on Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods. 

On Friends, he played Dr. Richard Burke, a love interest for Monica despite their age difference. When he returned to her life, Monica was forced to choose between him and Chandler. 

The Being Mary Jane actress appeared as Kristen, a woman who moved across the street from Central Perk. Both Ross and Joey asked her out and she agreed to a date with both of them.

When the two friends discovered this, they tried to compete for her love. This ended in her disinterest in both of them. 

You may remember him from House, but Hugh Laurie was already a comedy star in Britain thanks to the sketch comedy series A Bit of Fry & Laurie.

The comedic Brit appeared as the man Rachel sits next to on her flight to break up Ross and Emily's wedding. The character was completely unsympathetic to Rachel's side of the story, trying to ignore her before insisting that it seemed like they WERE on a break. 

Charlton Heston is one of the many actors that Joey has the honor of meeting throughout his acting career. 

And, as usual, Joey embarrassed himself. This time by only meeting Heston while he was using the actor's dressing room shower. 

The actress and fashion model appeared as Ross and Monica's cousin, Cassie, in an episode from season 7. 

Cassie's beauty shocked Chandler to the point where she was sent to stay with Ross, who had not seen her since childhood and was equally stunned by her. Ross misinterpreted a movie night with wine as a suggestive, romantic night between the two and attempted to kiss his cousin, causing her to react in shock and disgust. 

Paul Rudd appeared in the last two seasons of Friends as Mike Hannigan, the man who would become Phoebe's third husband. 

He was initially met by chance when Joey forgot he promised to arrange a blind date for Phoebe. Improvising, he said he set her up with a man named Mike and serendipitously gets his attention after screaming "Mike!" when walking into Central Perk. Mike was happy-go-lucky and a bit weird, making him the perfect husband for Phoebe to end the series. 

Before he became famous for The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Cole Sprouse played Ross' son, Ben, for two seasons on Friends.

Ben was raised by Ross' ex-wife and her partner. On the occasions Ross and the gang got to babysit him, he proved to be a rascal who delighted in pranks. 

Early on in "The One With Frank Jr.," Ross made a list of celebrities he would be allowed to sleep with. He initially had Isabella Rossellini on the list but bumps her for Winona Ryder (another guest star).

So it was to his great dismay that Rossellini herself walked into Central Perk later that day. He failed in his attempt to flirt with her, leading to his own humiliation. 

Freddie Prinze Jr. appeared as the titular nanny in "The One With the Male Nanny."

His character, Sandy, made Ross uncomfortable with how sensitive he was. He was fired during the episode, but not before he embarrassed Ross for playing with dinosaur toys as a grown adult.

The man of many talents who directed Iron Man and created The Mandalorian appeared in six episodes in Season 3 as Monica's boyfriend, Pete Becker. 

Monica dated Pete, a wealthy corporate computer manager, despite feeling little attraction to him. After failing to buy her affection, Pete became obsessed with training as a UFC fighter. Monica finally broke it off when she could no longer stand to see him get pulverized in the ring. 

The Mom star appeared in several episodes at the end of Friends as the birth mother of Chandler and Monica's (surprise!) twins. 

She was initially unsure whether she was pregnant from her football champion boyfriend, or Shovelly Joe, a man sent to prison for killing his father with a shovel. Thankfully, it was proven to be the former and one of the twins was named Erica in her honor. 

Dakota Fanning had already established herself as one of America's brightest young actors with roles in I Am Sam, Uptown Girls and Man on Fire when she guest-starred as the girl moving out of the house Chandler and Monica intended to buy.

Joey and her bonded over their desire to not have the couple buy the house. Even though he was displeased to discover that she was an avid reader, Joey still contacted her for career advice later in the episode. 

Before starring on Criminal Minds, Paget Brewster gained recognition as a television actress for her six-episode arc on Friends. 

Her character, Kathy, first dated Joey, but she later fell for the sweeter and more thoughtful Chandler. This prompted Chandler to feel self-conscious about his bedroom abilities compared to Joey's and he consulted Monica and Rachel for tips. The relationship ended when Chandler got overly jealous of the sexual chemistry between Kathy and her male co-star after seeing their play.

She played a paleontology professor who is wooed by Joey’s confidence, only to discover he has nothing to offer her intellectually. She then started a relationship with Ross, whom she left for her Nobel Prize-winning ex. 

 

The Thelma & Louise star appeared as Cecilia Monroe, a Days of Our Lives actress, in "The One With Joey's New Brain."

When it's revealed Joey's character finally comes out of a coma due to a brain transplant from Monroe's character, she throws a tantrum. But after coming to terms with the end of her run, she agreed to help Joey and even started a short relationship with him.  

Rachel's other sister, Amy, is played by Christina Applegate. Amy appeared in two separate episodes.

Amy was bossy, abrasive and extremely unlikable, prompting Joey to say she may be the hottest girl he's ever hated. A lot of her drama revolved around Emma, whom she calls the wrong name and, later, pierced her ears to the dismay of Ross and Rachel. 

The Two and a Half Men actor appeared as U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Ryan, or as Phoebe called him, "my 'submarine guy.'"

The two had a relationship for years, carried out through three-day visits when Ryan was not in his sub. When Phoebe had chicken pox for the latest visit, Ryan contracted it from her rather than keeping his distance. 

The Oscar-winning actor played the ex-fiancé of Phoebe's twin sister, Ursula, in two episodes from Season 8. 

However, after meeting Phoebe, he began to fall for her and broke up with her sister. But, of course, there ended up being a mixup that led to the relationship being too awkward to continue. 

The veteran TV actor appeared in "The One With the Donor" as Zack, Chandler's co-worker.

Chandler lured him back to his apartment to offer him as a prospect for sperm donation. Monica and Chandler grilled him over his health conditions. Despite passing with flying colors, the couple decided to adopt instead. 

The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star appeared in the episode "The One Where the Stripper Cries" as, you guessed it, the stripper. 

The character, Roy, was a professional male dancer who was sadly past his prime. He got very upset when Phoebe implied this. When she urged him to do one last dance, it sent him to the hospital. 

The Zoolander star appeared in the episode "The One With the Screamer" as, yes, the screamer.

Although he managed to hide it from Rachel, whom he was dating, his character, Tommy, became filled with rage to the point of viciously yelling at any inconvenience he encountered. His true colors were finally revealed to Rachel when Chandler and Joey's pet chicken urinated on his hand and he was unable to contain his fury.

The Seinfeld star is a professionally trained actor that brings a certain gravitas to his comedic roles, so he was perfectly cast as Earl, the suicidal businessman, in "The One Where Rosita Dies."

After Earl confessed he intended to kill himself over a sales call, Phoebe went to his office to convince him his life was still worth living. 

Most people have crazy experiences in college, usually not with Winona Ryder. Such was the case when Rachel made out with her sorority sister, Melissa (played by Ryder), after drinking too much. 

Melissa held onto that night and developed a huge crush on Rachel that was still present when the two ran into each other at Central Perk. In an effort to prove to Phoebe that she was still a little wild, Rachel kissed Melissa again, getting Melissa's hopes up they could be together but ultimately leaving her heartbroken. 

The Oscar-nominated actor appeared on the Season 10 episode "The One With Ross' Grant" as the Nobel prize-winning paleontologist that Charlie (Aisha Tyler) still had feelings for. 

Ross, lacking the intellectual firepower of Benjamin and Charlie, unwittingly pushed them back together. However, this somewhat worked out for the best as it cleared the way for Ross to receive the coveted grant he was after. 

The Jurassic Park star appeared in the Season 9 episode "The One With the Mugging" as Leonard Hayes, a famous actor Joey was desperate to impress.

Of course, Hayes did not like Joey at first. He only warmed up to him when Joey brought a ferocious energy to his audition after drinking too much Yoo-hoo. 

The sultry Cruel Intentions star appeared as Wendy, Chandler's co-worker who tried to seduce him in "The One With Christmas in Tulsa."

Despite unbridled advances, Chandler stayed true to Monica, going as far as to quit his job to avoid Wendy. 

The real-life Oscar winner appeared as Richard Crosby, an Oscar-nominated co-star of Joey's for a period piece about World War I. 

The problem was Crosby had a knack for over-enunciation, which caused him to repeatedly spit in Joey's face during the scene. Joey tried to play it off like his character was a "face-wiper," but Crosby and the director were unimpressed.

Malcolm was the ex-boyfriend and stalker of Phoebe's sister, Ursula. He mistook Phoebe for her and the two started a relationship which, as you might expect, did not go well.

The action star and martial artist appeared as a heightened version of himself on "The One After the Super Bowl, Part 2."

In the episode, Monica and Rachel fought for his affection. He initially dated Rachel, but gave Monica a try after Rachel told him that she would be willing to have a threesome with him and Drew Barrymore. Monica refused this as soon as she realized Rachel suggested it, leading to more fighting between the two. 

The actress made a cameo as her Mad About You character, Jamie Buchman, in one episode of Friends. 

This is because Ursula Buffay originated on Mad About You, which is also set in New York. In their scene, Buchman mistakes Phoebe for her twin sister.
