Andreja Pejic talks for the first time about becoming a transgender supermodel.
Model Andreja Pejic broke new ground after starting as a male and became the most successful androgynous runway model ever. Now Andreja (formerly Andrej) is telling us her story for the first time after completing her transgender transformation.
"One of my earliest memories was spinning around in my mom's skirt, trying to be a ballerina," says Andreja. "It was at the age of 13 when I discovered what trans means and what gender identity means and what sexuality means, and I knew that this was something I always had to do."
Before working with big names like Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier, Andreja was a Bosnian War refugee who emigrated to Australia and was discovered in McDonald's at 17.
"People ask me, 'Do you want to be a man? Do you want to be a woman?' Let's talk about this in five or ten years time. Right now I'm young, fresh and unisex," Andreja told us in 2011.
"I wasn't ready to share before," Andreja tells us now. "I'm 22 and more confident than ever."
