So this explains Mary-Kate Olsen's perpetually messy 'do.
Though they're known for building one of the most successful and well-respected celebrity fashion empires of all time with their lines Elizabeth and James, The Row and Olsenboye, according to a new interview with Elle magazine, the Olsen twins still have a lot to learn when it comes to the beauty business.
.... Specifically Mary-Kate, whose wavy -- arguably messy -- tresses have always been a subject of hot debate when it comes to red carpet fashion.
"You know, the truth is I feel like I just learned how to brush my hair like last week!" she surprisingly admits to the magazine.
On the other hand, Ashley says her skills are a lot better -- even going so far as to give her friend a haircut.
"My friend actually also made me cut her hair the other day and that didn’t look too bad either," she recalls. "She had long hair, too. It was down to here [salutes to her belly button] and I cut it up to here [points to just below her shoulder]. She made me do it, but it looks great. I made it a blunt, A-line haircut. And then we had a professional come in after and clean it up a bit! But it was pretty good on its own."
The twins are currently promoting the launch of their first two fragrances for Elizabeth and James, the "demure" Nirvana White and the "provocative" Nirvana Black.
Not surprisingly, Ashley has an unconventional way of applying fragrance.

"I also like if you spritz it in your hair, then to me it becomes not something that’s really applied, but it becomes something that feels a part of you," she says.
