The 'Rocket Man' singer celebrated his special day with some handmade cards from his young sons and received an outpouring of love from celebs across the globe.
Music icon Elton John is feeling the love tonight as he celebrates his 71st birthday.
The "Tiny Dancer" singer is still standing as one of the most revered musicians in show business, but he's also a beloved father -- and it was the gifts from husband David Furnish, and their two sons, that meant the most to him on his special day.
The birthday boy, who is currently in Rome, took to Instagram on Sunday to share his appreciation for his sweet family.
First, John shared a picture of two hand-drawn cards, created by his 7-year-old son, Zachary, and his 5-year-old son, Elijah, and it's clear how much effort they put into making sure they didn't go breaking his heart on his big day.
"Woke up to these beautiful birthday cards from my beautiful sons," John captioned the cute photo.
John also posted a photo of the thoughtful gift he got from his husband -- a beautiful, multi-colored bouquet of different roses, meaning he won't have an empty garden on his birthday.
"'I like flowers...' Thank-you David, Zachary and Elijah!!" the GRAMMY winner wrote.
In celebration of John's life and legacy, some of his biggest fans took to social media to share their birthday wishes, including past collaborators and many who have been influenced by his music.
Sam Smith, Carole King, Ryan Adams, Slash and even a few of The Muppets are among the many celebs who reached out on John's big day.
In January, John announced that he will be retiring from touring upon the completion of his current, lengthy farewell tour. The celebrated artist said that his priorities in life have changed, and he wants to focus on his family.
ET recently caught up with John where he opened up about his reasons for retiring. Check out the video below to hear more from the acclaimed singer.
