The singer was rumored to not attend over his lack of nominations in the top categories, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
Sometimes you can win, even when you don't show up.
Ed Sheeran picked up two awards at Sunday night's GRAMMYs, but was not in attendance to accept them.
During the pre-show, he won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for ÷(Divide), and during the telecast, he received the award for Best Pop Solo Performance for "Shape of You," over Pink, Kesha, Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga, all of whom were in the audience.
Sheeran was rumored to not be attending the ceremony due to being snubbed in two major categories, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. His "End Game" collaborator Taylor Swift was also left out of any major nominations, though her song for Little Big Town, "Better Man," did garner a win for Best Country/Duo Group Performance.
The 26-year-old singer talked about the snubs last year on Ellen DeGeneres' Ellen Show Me More Show.
"My outlook on it is, it's just -- some years you have your year, and some years you don't have your year," Sheeran explained. "And maybe this year isn't my year."
He did go on to say that he was happy that people were hooked on his songs though.
"That's where the validation comes from," he said. "You actually see genuine people enjoying the songs and stuff like that. I'd rather have, like, a lifetime of people coming up to me, saying like, 'This song affects me in this way, in a positive way, 'This song was my wedding song,' 'This song was my first kiss' than anything else."
