The 'Beauty and the Beast' actress is clarifying her quotes on how women "must sometimes take the blame."
Angela Lansbury is clarifying her controversial comments.
The 92-year-old actress came under fire earlier this week after she shared her thoughts on all the recent sexual harassment allegations in the entertainment industry and the women who have come forward to share their stories.
In her initial comments, the Beauty and the Beast star told Radio Times that "there are two sides to this coin."
“We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us -- and this is where we are today," she expressed. "We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped."
On Wednesday, Lansbury issued a statement, obtained by ET, saying that her comments were taken "out of context."
"There is no excuse whatsoever for men to harass women in an abusive sexual manner. And, I am devastated that anyone should deem me capable of thinking otherwise," she expressed. "Those who have known the quality of my work and the many public statements I have made over the course of my life, must know, that I am a strong supporter of Women's Rights."
"Lastly, I would like to add that I am troubled by how quickly and brutishly some have taken my comments out of context and attempted to blame my generation, my age, or my mindset, without having read the entirety of what I said," she added.
Lansbury isn't the only celeb who has received backlash for controversial comments on sexual harassment.
U.S. Olympian Gabby Douglas recently apologized for her response to Team USA teammate Aly Raisman about sexual abuse victims and designer Donna Karan had to clarify her comments about women "asking for it" by the way they dress.
Vanderpump Rules star Stassi Schroeder also told ET this week that she "didn't realize" that fans felt she was insensitive toward sexual abuse victims who have come forward as a result of the "Me Too" campaign.
